Forgive Me My Sister

I stand by your grave,
at daybreak, on icy morning,
so no one could see,
the torrent of tears,
pouring down my cheeks.

In our childhood,
I always promised you,
if you ever need me,
I will  be there for you,
count on me to protect you.

Forgive me my sister,
for failing my promise,
for I never knew,
of the cruelty,
your husband caused you.

Thousands of miles,
covered the truth,
when I found out,
it was too late,
to be there for you.

Often I think of you,
and you know,
that I never forgot,
my promise,
and the love for you.

"Seven Spanish Angels"

I wrote this poem in memory of my sister Jarmila. Her life was snatched away from her at the age of early 40's.  It was very heart breaking to visit her grave  during my visit to former homeland. To this day, so many years later, the wound of her loss did not heal. When ever I think of her, my eyes
always flood in tears.
